Byron Hetzler has been photographing professionally for more than 20 years. His work has appeared in Sports Illustrated, ESPN the Magazine, People, Ski, Skiing, Powder, Travel & Leisure, USA Today, The New York Times, Wall Street Journal, The Chicago Tribune, The Los Angeles Times, The Denver Post, Rocky Mountain News and many other magazines, newspapers and web sites in the United States and abroad, as well as on the Associated Press, European PressPhoto Agency, Reuters and United Press International wire services. From 1991-98, he was the staff photographer for Winter Park Resort where his images were used in advertising, brochures, billboards, public relations and other collateral materials. He now freelances full-time for a variety of clients locally and throughout the country including US Presswire--a sports photography agency.

Born and raised in Iowa City, Iowa, Byron began his photographic training at the University of Iowa where he received his degree in journalism and mass communication, and worked for the award-winning paper, The Daily Iowan, as a photographer and photo editor.

While much of his photography is focused on capturing mountain recreation and lifestyle in its natural scenic setting, Byron also finds time to search out other visually interesting subjects locally and throughout the state, and recently published his first book: Grand County Visions: A Visual Journey Through Winter Park, Grand Lake and Surrounding Areas. He is a member of three professional photography organizations: the American Society of Media Photographers, Editorial Photographers, and SportsShooter.com.

A resident of Colorado for more than 20 years, he makes his home in Granby. Outside of photography Byron enjoys taking advantage of where he lives by mountain biking, hiking, golfing and playing soccer. In fact, he really loves soccer! He coached youth soccer for eight years, has his United States Soccer Federation coaching license, is a certified soccer referee, is an assistant coach for the Middle Park High School girls varsity soccer team and boys junior varsity soccer team.
